Accessing Coverage for Mental Healthcare KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!
Parity is the law. Insurance companies are required to provide coverage for mental healthcare, including for substance use disorder services, at the same level they cover physical health services. However, lack of mental health parity in insurance coverage is a form of discrimination that people with mental health and substance use disorders continue to experience.
Join us to learn more about: changes in coverage for mental healthcare due to COVID-19; existing parity law and your rights; how to spot and respond to potential parity violations; how to advocate for yourself, a family member, or patient to get the insurance benefits needed. Facilitators: Shamus Durac, Staff Attorney, RI Parent Information Network and Karen Malcolm, Project Manager, RI Parity Initiative
